Tripura set to roll out women’s courts in 10 panchayats

Agartala, Feb 27 (UNI) The Tripura Council of Ministers has decided to implement the Centres’s “Nari Adalat” scheme as a pilot project in 10 gram panchayats, said Cabinet spokesperson and Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury here on Friday.

The Nari Adalat scheme, which was initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is designed to operate as a local arbitration forum at the panchayat level to address issues related to atrocities against women and to recommend necessary police intervention.

Each Nari Adalat will consist of a committee comprising up to nine members who are well-regarded in the community.

The pilot program will encompass selected panchayats across all eight districts, establishing village-level courts that will serve as a platform for women experiencing abuse or violence, facilitating local resolution within their communities.

Through these initiatives, the Tripura government aims to improve governance, empower women, and create more opportunities for students throughout the state.

The initial centres will be set up in Phulbari (North Tripura), Srirampur (Unakoti), West Sonatala (Khowai), Lembuchhara (West Tripura), Khedachhara (Sepahijala), Tepania (Gomati), Vivekanandapalli (South Tripura), and Singinala and Halahali (Dhalai).
