Bhopal: Governor Mangubhai Patel emphasized the significance of preserving the rich heritage of tribal communities, which includes their food, folk arts, crafts, clothing, jewelry, and medicinal practices. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day Shilp Gram Mahotsav held at Ravindra Bhawan, he highlighted the responsibility of society to promote this vibrant folk culture. He commended the State Government’s initiatives aimed at commercializing the creativity rooted in natural resources, thereby supporting the sustainable livelihoods of tribal communities.
The festival was organized by the Tribal Affairs Department in collaboration with Vanya Prakashan, the National Institute of Design, and the Tribal Research Institute. During the event, Governor Patel interacted with artists, discussing their work and contributions. As a token of appreciation, he received a bell metal artwork from craftsmen of Betul district and various products made by trainee artisans at the festival. Senior Gond artist Anand Shyam welcomed the Governor in a traditional manner, showcasing the cultural richness of the community.
Governor Patel expressed pride in the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has significantly contributed to the empowerment and development of tribal populations. He noted the initiatives under the ‘Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan,’ which aim to enhance socio-economic conditions, health, education, and infrastructure for tribal communities. Patel detailed the government’s commitment to providing essential services, including clean drinking water, healthcare, and housing, particularly for the most marginalized tribes.
Governor highlights efforts to eradicate sickle cell disease
Addressing health concerns, the Governor highlighted efforts to eradicate sickle cell disease by 2047, urging collaboration between the government and society. He stressed the importance of genetic testing for pregnant women and newborns to prevent the spread of this hereditary condition. Furthermore, he encouraged the tribal community to draw inspiration from historical figures like Rani Durgavati and Birsa Munda, advocating for education as a key to progress.
Tribal Affairs Minister Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah announced plans for a new training center aimed at preserving and promoting tribal art and culture. He reiterated the Governor’s call for society to respect and honor artistic traditions. The festival also featured exhibitions of tribal crafts and cuisine, providing a platform for artists to share their experiences. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Commissioner Vandana Vaidya, recognizing the Minister’s support for tribal artisans.
