Mumbai, July 2 (UNI) The trailer for ‘Maalik’, an intense action-drama starring National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao, has been officially released, offering a gritty glimpse into the rise of a reluctant gangster navigating power, bloodshed and politics.
For the first time in his career, Rajkummar Rao embraces the persona of a feared gangster, breaking away from his signature roles of understated characters.
In the trailer, Rajkummar is seen firing bullets continuously. Set against the turbulent socio-political backdrop of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, ‘Maalik’ chronicles the metamorphosis of a common man into a feared underworld figure and eventually, a political player.
The trailer opens to an imposing scene of heavy police presence, layered with a voice-over that sets the tone for the protagonist’s inner conflict and impeding descent, “You are the son of a helpless father, do not try to become what you are not.”
Moments later, Rajkummar Rao is seen on the screen. He is seen walking with a gun on his shoulder. In the trailer, Rajkumar Rao is seen causing bloodshed.
Rajkumar Rao says, “I was the son of a helpless father, that was my fate. But you will be the father of a powerful son, that’s yours.” The trailer shows how a common man becomes a gangster and then enters politics.
The trailer also features Manushi Chhillar in a pivotal role as Rao’s on-screen wife, adding an emotional layer to the story. Apart from this, Swanand Kirkire, Saurabh Shukla and Anshuman Pushkar lend to the story.
Directed by Pulkit, ‘Maalik’ and is set to hit cinemas on July 11.
