Tragedy strikes Bageshwar Dham again

  • Wall collapse kills one, injures ten

Chhatarpur: A devastating accident unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday at the renowned Bageshwar Dham, as a pilgrim guesthouse wall unexpectedly collapsed. The tragic incident claimed the life of 40-year-old Anita Devi, a resident of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, and left more than ten pilgrims injured.

Harrowing scenes and immediate response

According to family members, pilgrims were asleep in the Dharmshala (Guesthouse) when the wall suddenly crumbled, trapping them under the debris. Anita Devi, wife of Raju from Adlahat village in Mirzapur, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Emergency services, including local police and administration teams, swiftly arrived at the site. Ambulances transported the injured to the Chhatarpur District Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have reported that the condition of most of the injured is stable.

Critical injuries and ongoing investigation

Among the injured, four individuals with more severe conditions were given immediate first aid and then referred to Gwalior Medical College for specialized care. Five others are undergoing treatment in Chhatarpur, and three sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged. Senior administrative officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), visited the site and the hospital to oversee rescue operations and ensure proper medical attention for the victims. An investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the wall collapse.

A recurring nightmare: Second incident in days

This latest tragedy marks the second significant accident at Bageshwar Dham within a short span. Just days prior, on July 3rd, a tent collapse within the Dham premises resulted in the death of 50-year-old Shyam Lal Kaushal, who was struck by a falling iron angle, and injured eight others. These repeated incidents have raised concerns about safety measures at the popular pilgrimage site.
