Traffic police to monitor ban on non-BS VI vehicles’ entry into Delhi

New Delhi, 17 December (UNI): The Delhi Traffic Police and transport department enforcement teams will be stationed at petrol pumps and border checkpoints as the ban on the entry of non-BS VI vehicles registered outside Delhi comes into effect from Thursday.

Officials said the Transport Department has around 78 to 80 enforcement teams that will be deployed at key border points, including Kundi, Rajokri, Tikri, Aya Nagar, Kalindi Kunj, Auchandi, Mandoli, Kapashera, and the Bajghera toll on the Dwarka Expressway, among others.

From Thursday, vehicles without a valid pollution under control certificate (PUCC) will not be supplied fuel at petrol pumps across the city.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh announced that vehicles registered outside Delhi and falling below the BS-VI category will not be permitted to enter the city when GRAP stages 3 and 4 are in force.

Automatic number plate recognition systems and on-ground inspections will be used to verify vehicles’ PUCC status and emission categories.

A senior Delhi Traffic Police officer said multiple teams will be stationed at all Delhi–Haryana and Delhi–Uttar Pradesh border checkpoints to ensure strict enforcement of the restrictions.

“Our teams will be deployed at every border checkpoint. Only BS-VI private vehicles, regardless of state registration, with a valid pollution certificate will be allowed to enter the capital from the Uttar Pradesh and Haryana sides. Strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the rule,” the officer said.

The ban on the entry of non-BS VI vehicles is among a series of measures announced by the government in response to rising pollution levels in the national capital.
