Bhopal: A traditional painting workshop on “Traditional Kalamkari of Andhra Pradesh” was inaugurated on 28 May 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal. Organized under the museum’s ‘Do & Learn’ educational program, the workshop focuses on introducing participants to the heritage-rich art form of Kalamkari.
The inaugural session began with a ceremonial lamp lighting and welcome address. Present on the occasion were Dr. Surya Kumar Pandey (Museum Office Head and Assistant Curator, Hemant Bahadur Singh Parihar, PRO, Dr. Ashok Vardhan, Assistant Keeper, along with other museum officials, dignitaries, and art enthusiasts.
Renowned Kalamkari artists Mrs. A Madhu and Rajendra from Sri Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, shared insights into the cultural and historical significance of Kalamkari. On the first day, around fifteen participants were introduced to traditional techniques and trained using natural colors.
The workshop will run daily from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm until 5 June 2025 at the Vithi Complex Indoor Museum Building. Participants will gain both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience in Kalamkari art, making it a practical and enriching learning opportunity.
