Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 17 (UNI) Several college students were injured, including two who are in critical condition, when a tourist bus carrying them overturned near Kallambalam in this district early on Saturday.
The bus was transporting students, teachers and staff of an engineering college from Thrissur district on an educational tour to Vizhinjam Port.
The accident occurred on the service road along the Navayikkulam–Kallambalam stretch when the bus reportedly lost control and overturned on the roadside.
According to preliminary reports, 17 students sustained injuries in the mishap, with two reported to be in serious condition.
A total of 42 persons, including faculty members, were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident.
All the injured were immediately rushed to Parippally Government Medical College Hospital and nearby private hospitals in Kollam. Hospital authorities said that most of the injured are out of danger.
Soon after the incident, police and rescue personnel rushed to the scene and conducted relief operations with the assistance.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including possible factors such as driver fatigue or road conditions.
