Chennai, Sep 29 (UNI) With one more person succumbing to injuries, the toll in Saturday’s stampede at TVK Founder and actor Vijay’s political rally in Karur rose to 41, even as the BJP National Leadership constituted an eight-member NDA panel to probe the incident and submit a report.
With the death of a man at Karur Government hospital the toll increased to 41.
The deaths included 18 women, 13 men and 10 children.
The high level committee, which has NDA constituents as members, would be headed by Ms Hemamalini, who is a BJP Mathura MP and a native of Tamil Nadu, and it would go into the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
The panel, which would visit Karur to study the on-the-spot situation, was formed by BJP National President J P Nadda.
Union Minister Arurag Thakur, Tejasvi Surya, former IPS officer Brij Lal, Aparajita Sarangi and Rekha Sharma–all from the BJP–and Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde and TDP’s Putta Mahesh Kumar as its members.
In a statement, Mr Nadda also expressed profound grief over the tragedy and offered his heartfelt and deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
