Tokyo/New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) The Tokyo SkyTree, the tallest structure in Japan and the world’s tallest freestanding tower, was today lighted up in the colours of the Indian tricolour in honour of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan.
PM Modi arrived in Tokyo today on a two-day visit at the invitation of Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit dialogue.
The Tokyo Skytree is a prominent broadcasting tower, observation deck, and restaurant complex in Tokyo.
It measures 634 meters (2,080 ft) in height. The tower was designed by Nikken Sekkei Ltd. and was completed in 2012. The tower’s design is unique, transitioning from a triangle at its base to a circular shape as it rises. It was built to withstand strong winds and earthquakes, a necessity in seismically active Japan.
The lower deck at 350 meters, features a restaurant, cafe, and a 360-degree observation floor.
At night, the Skytree is illuminated, and has been used to display special colours for events, such as the tribute to India-Japan friendship today.
