Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds likely in Telangana on Aug 5-6: IMD

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) The Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and sustained surface winds in several districts of Telangana on August 5 and 6.

According to the daily weather report issued on Sunday, thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated places in districts including Nirmal, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal on August 5.

A similar weather pattern is likely to prevail on August 6 in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and other districts of the state.

The report also indicated that light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated to a few places, and at times in many places across Telangana, over the next seven days. Sustained surface winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph are likely to be experienced at isolated locations in all districts over the next five days.

The southwest monsoon has remained weak over Telangana, with rainfall recorded at only one or two locations during the past 24 hours, the report added.
