Manila, May 29 (UNI) Three people have died and seven others injured after an 18-wheeled trailer truck plowed into five vehicles while traveling along a four-lane road in the Philippine capital, police said on Thursday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Lim told reporters that the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. local time Wednesday while the truck was descending a road in Quezon City.
Initial investigation showed that the speeding truck swerved to the left, causing it to roll on its side and crash into three motorcycles, a sedan, and a basic utility vehicle.
Among the dead were a pedestrian man waiting for a ride in a shed and a motorcycle passenger who died at the scene. Another person was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Those injured were passengers of the motorcycles and the cars.
The truck driver told police that he lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure. He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
