Panaji, Thousands of people have gathered at Kala Academy to pay their last respect to late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who passed after fighting a prolonged fight with cancer on Sunday.
The mortal remains of the former defence minister have been kept at Kala Academy where besides his supporters and party workers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President Amit Shah, state chief ministers and party national office bearers are expected to pay their homage.
The final journey of late chief minister began in morning today. Mortal remains were taken from his private residence at Dona Paula to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Headquarters in the city and kept there for the people to their last respect to the departed leader. Large number of people had gathered at BJP State Headquarters to pay homage to their beloved leader.
Army has arranged a decorated truck for carrying the mortal remains of the leader. When the mortal remains of Parrikar, wrapped in national flag, reached BJP office in the city, the emotional party workers raised slogans ‘Manohar Bhai Amar Rahe’ (Long Live Manohar Bhai). The Chief Minister was called by his supporters and party workers ‘Bhai.’
Thereafter, it was brought to Kala Academy. The mortal remains will be kept there till 1600 hrs, at 1630 hrs Vidhi is to be performed and final rites are to be performed at 1700 hrs.Meanwhile, shops in Margao, a prominent city in South Goa, remain closed today to pay respect to the leader.
