Think about those detainees against whom no crime proven so far: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Sep 23 (UNI) National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday said the government must think about those detainees against whom no charges have been framed for the past five years.

Omar said this while replying to a question about what Home Minister Amit Shah had said Sunday during an election rally at Jammu that no stone pelter or terrorist will be released in Jammu and Kashmir.

“At last everybody has a right to prove one’s innocence and come out of jail”, Omar told media persons in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday.

Omar is contesting Assembly elections from central Kashmir’s Budgam and Ganderbal districts.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said “I just want to know that who had been arrested, does any case have been registered against them. Has their crime been proven in the court”.

“You have kept them jailed for the past five years, tell me how many of them had their crime proven in court, ” he questioned and added, “most of them against whom no case has been initiated till this date”.

The government must think about those detainees against whom no initiative has been taken so far, he added.

Earlier during his electioneering in Budgam, Omar said that his party manifesto is committed to reviewing the case of those who have been arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and have been sent to outside jails of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that his party would repeal the PSA and try to bring all those detainees back home with honour if they formed the next government.

He said there is no home left where any of their youth has been registered under First Information Report (FIR) in their particular police stations. He alleged that they are being asked to present themselves every week.
