There should be no sympathy for deportees: Khattar

Chandigarh / New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Amidst uproar over USA’s treatment of Indian deportees, Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Thursday that they went to the USA illegally, therefore, there should be no sympathy for deportees.

While speaking to media, he said that they went to the US illegally through the Dunkey route and broke the law, so there should be no sympathy for them.

When asked about the US sending Indian deportees handcuffed, he said there were different laws in different countries, and one cannot argue with that. They entered a country illegally and they are criminals, he noted.

Comparing the tendency of going abroad illegally (in search of jobs / opportunities) with drug menace, the Minister said that people take these journeys despite being advised against it.

“Our people should not take this route, as it is as bad as drug menace,” he said.

Notably, the USA has sent more than 300 deportees in three Army planes after new President Donald Trump announced a new immigrant policy. As the deportees have been sent back handcuffed and in chains, the opposition has raised the demand that the Indian government should bring back these deportees in commercial flights.

Also, they are demanding that the government should take steps to rehabilitate these youths by providing them job opportunities as they had gone abroad in search of jobs by selling their lands or properties or taking loans.

Moreover, action against fake travel agents, who sent people illegally abroad, is also being sought.
