New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) Following the cloudburst at Tharali, in Chamoli District, the Indian Army today deployed a column from the Infantry Battalion comprising about 50 personnel from Rudraprayag, the Indian Army said.
Moreover, a medical team has also been mobilised from Joshimath, and Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs with surveillance drones are being moved to the site to assist in locating survivors and providing relief, the Army said.
The district administration of Chamoli has forwarded a written requisition to the Army for assistance.
The Indian Army remains committed to providing all necessary support to the civil administration and local population. Further updates will be shared as the situation evolves, the statement said.
A cloudburst struck Tharali, about 75 km southeast of Rudraprayag in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand, during the intervening night of August 22 and August 23.
According to preliminary reports, several people are missing, and there has been damage to homes and vehicles in the affected region.
