Tennis Premier League: Delhi Aces beat Chennai Smashers

Ahmedabad, Dec 10 (UNI) Day two of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 7 witnessed fiercely contested matches at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium, with GS Delhi Aces and SG Pipers Bengaluru claiming contrasting results in closely fought ties.

In the opening clash, GS Delhi Aces edged past Chennai Smashers 56-44. Belgian star Sofia Costoulas continued her impressive form, winning the Women’s Singles 17- 8 against Irina Bara before teaming up with Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan to clinch the Mixed Doubles 16-9.

Chennai Smashers’ Dalibor Svrcina managed a narrow 13-12 victory over Billy Harris in Men’s Singles, while the Svrcina-Bollipalli duo also won the Men’s Doubles 14-11.

However, Delhi’s Harris and Nedunchezhiyan sealed the overall tie with a strong performance in Men’s Doubles.

In the second match, Yash Mumbai Eagles narrowly defeated SG Pipers Bengaluru 51–49. Riya Bhatia opened proceedings with a 17–8 win in Women’s Singles and teamed with Niki Poonacha for a 14–11 Mixed Doubles victory.

Ramkumar Ramanathan restored Bengaluru’s lead with a 15–10 Men’s Singles win over Damir Dzumhur, but Mumbai’s Poonacha–Dzumhur combination prevailed 13–12 in Men’s Doubles, ensuring a hard-fought overall win for the Eagles.

The second day of TPL Season 7 underlined the competitive edge and fine margins that are shaping the season, with several matches decided by just a point or two.
