More than 23 per cent polling was recorded in the first four hours in the Assembly election which is underway in 119 constituencies on Friday, even as the EVMs developed minor technical problems .
Governor ESL Narasimhan, his spouse Vimala Narasimhan, Chief Secretary S K Joshi, State Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar, Principal Secretary Harpreet Singh, Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy, GHMC Commissioner and Hyderabad district Election Officer Dana Kishore were the early voters to cast their votes.
The Polling began at 7 am for 119 assembly seats spread in 31 districts across the state amid tight security arrangements.
The polling will end at 1700 hours, except in 13 Naxalites affected constituencies where it will close at 1600 hours.
According to Chief Electoral Office, an estimated 23.4 per cent of more than 2.8 crore voters had exercise their franchise in the first four hours and the polling is going on peacefully at all the 32,815 polling stations.
In Hyderabad, the voter turnout was 16.16 per cent which is supposed to be lowest in the state.
Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, former Rajya Sabha MP and film actor K Chiranjeevi, caretaker Minsiter K T Rama Rao, BJP State Minister Laxman, former MLA G Kisha Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Uttam Kumar Reddy, Film Actors, Krishna, Nagarjuna, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Jr NTR, Japathi Babu, Director Raja Mouli, also turned up early to caste their votes.
Tennis star Sania Mirza and his family members and Balladeer Gaddar, who registered himself to exercise his franchise for the first time in his life, casted their votes.
