Mumbai, July 12 (UNI) Better than expected financial performance by IT giant TCS drove the stock market to a fresh high today and the BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 622 points at 80,519.34.
IT, Technology, energy and select banking stock were main focus in the market.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty also touched fresh high and closed at new record level of 24,502.15 with a gain of over 180 points.
The day opened on a strong note with BSE Sensex opening at 80,093.62. During the day, it spurted 995 points to 52-week high of 80,892.51 before closing at 80,519.34 from its previous close.
The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had sold equities worth Rs 1,137 crore while the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) had bought equities to the tune of Rs 1,676 crore in the last trading session, according to data available.
The stocks that lifted the market today were Technology by 3.29 percent, FMCG by 0.24 percent, and Energy by 0.13 percent.
The NSE registered days high and low at 24,592.20 and 24,331.15 points, respectively.
In 30-scrips index, 22 advanced while eight declined. The midcap fell 0.22 percent and the small cap by 0.13 percent.
The gainers were TCS by 6.68 per cent to Rs 4184.90, Infosys by 3.57 percent to Rs 1712, HCL Technology by 3.20 percent to Rs 1560.40, and Tech Mahindra by 3.19 percent to Rs 1505.35.
The losers were Maruti Suzuki by 1 percent to Rs 12,585.75, Asian Paints by 0.79 percent to Rs 2999.50, Kotak Bank by 0.77 percent to Rs 1830.05, and ICICI Bank by 0.56 percent to Rs 1232.95.
