Taiwan’s ‘Left-Handed Girl’ impresses IFFI before global Netflix debut

Goa, Nov 27 (UNI) Taiwan’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards, Left-Handed Girl, received an enthusiastic reception at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025, where it screened to a packed auditorium ahead of its global Netflix release on November 28.
The film is directed, written, and produced by Shih-Ching Tsou, with Sean Baker serving as co-writer, producer, and editor. It features compelling performances from Janel Tsai, Shih-Yuan Ma, Nina Ye, Brando Huang, Akio Chen, and Xin-Yan Chao.
Set amid the vibrant hustle of Taipei’s night markets, Left-Handed Girl follows a multi-generational tale of three women. The story centers on a single mother who moves to Taipei with her two daughters and starts a night-market stall to sustain the family.
As they adjust to an unfamiliar city and a new rhythm of life, the women confront real-world challenges while gradually discovering belonging, resilience, and renewed family bonds.
Celebrating the warm festival response, a Netflix spokesperson said, “After its reception at IFFI, we’re excited for audiences around the world to experience this moving Taiwanese drama when it streams on Netflix from November 28, 2025.”
Critics and festivalgoers praised the film for its vivid portrayal of Taipei, emotional honesty, and its ability to transform a deeply personal narrative into one with universal resonance.
