Syrup deaths, Cong demands director’s arrest

Betul, Oct 8 (UNI) In the wake of many children’s deaths in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara and Betul districts following the consumption of cough syrup, the state’s principal opposition party, Congress, has strongly criticized the government and demanded the arrest of the medicine company’s director.

The party also called for compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the affected families and government employment for one member from each family.

The party stated that Minister of State for Public Health and Medical Education, Narendra Shivaji Patel, should take moral responsibility and immediately tender his resignation.

Congress Betul President Nilay Daga visited the Kalmeshwara and Jamun Bichhua villages yesterday and met the families of the victims.

He alleged that both the government and the company are responsible for the fatalities and demanded the lodging of a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the director.
