Supriya Shrinate says India–US trade anti-farmer

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Supriya Shrinate, national president of the Congress Social Media Department, on Sunday addressed a detailed press conference at the state Congress office, sharply criticising the Centre over the proposed India–US trade deal and raising serious questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role.

Describing the agreement as being “imposed by a compromised Prime Minister”, she alleged that it was against the interests of farmers, youth, energy security and data sovereignty. Referring to the US Supreme Court’s reported stay on President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs policy on February 20, 2026, she questioned the alleged haste in concluding the deal.

Shrinate claimed India accepted higher tariffs on its goods while offering near-zero duties on American products and committing to large-scale imports. She further alleged that conditions affecting Russian oil imports and sensitive data posed risks to national interests.

She said Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge would raise the issue at a farmers’ convention on February 24, asserting that the party would oppose the agreement from the streets to Parliament.
