Gurdaspur, Bollywood actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol filed his nomination papers as Bhartiya Janata Party candidate from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha here on Monday.
A prominent figure in the Indian film industry, Ajay Singh Deol is famous as Sunny Deol. He filed his nominations in his original name Ajay Singh Deol.
Before filing his nominations, Deol paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir in Amritsar in the morning.Deol, accompanied by his brother and film star Bobby Deol, filed his nomination in Gurdaspur.
Central ministers V K Singh and Jatinder Singh, BJP’s election in-charge and Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu, Punjab BJP President and Rajya Sabha member Shwait Malik and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Gurbachan Singh Babewali were also present when the BJP candidate filed his nomination papers.
Deol will face sitting MP and PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar, Peter Masih of Aam Adami Party and Lal Chand of Punjab Democratic Alliance in the electoral contest from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.
The Gurdaspur seat had earlier been represented by late actor Vinod Khanna in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014. He died due to prolonged ailment in 2017 and in the by-election BJP fielded Mumbai-based businessman SwaranSingh Salaria, a party leader from Pathankot but he was defeated by PPCC President Sunil Jakhar by a margin of more than 1.93 lakh votes.
There was big crowd of people, including fans of the film actor, who were curious to get a glimpse of the actor.
