Sufi council backs proposed Waqf Act amendments

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) The All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council supports the Government’s proposed amendments to the Waqf Act, a representative of the council said on Tuesday.

Syed Naseeruddin Chishti, chairman of the council, an umbrella body for Sufis in India, said, “The council strongly supports the amendments that are being proposed by this Government. There is a desperate need for amendments.”

Chishti highlighted the council’s long-standing demand for these changes, noting, “The Dargahs hold the maximum stakes, and our demands should be met. We strongly believe that the Government will present the Bill in favour of Muslims.”

He urged people to refrain from spreading misinformation and to wait for the bill’s presentation in Parliament before forming opinions.

“The bill should be thoroughly studied. It is wise to understand the bill rather than making premature judgments and accusations,” Chishti added. He also emphasized the need to address corruption within the Waqf Board, stating, “The Government will only work for the betterment of the Muslims. This matter should not be politicized.”

Chishti mentioned that the council has submitted its demands to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who responded positively to their representation.
