New Delhi, The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament – Asia’s largest youth football tournament will kick off on Tuesday here at Dr Ambedkar Stadium. The opening match in the U-14 boys will be played between between Reliance Foundation School (RFS) and Jharkhand.
The tournament this year will see a record participation from 112 teams including 16 international teams vying for the coveted winner’s prize in the Sub Junior Boys (U-14), Junior (U-17) Boys & Girls categories.
The U-14 boys’ finals will be played on August 29 at the Ambedkar stadium while U-17 girls’ and U-17 boys’ categories will start their matches on August 30 and September 7 with the finals scheduled for September 6, 18 respectively.
The U-14 boys’ category has 36 teams, while U-17 girls’ have 31 and U-17 boys’ have the maximum participating teams, 45. Apart from Bangladesh and Afghanistan, the other countries participating in this season include Nigeria, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan having representations across categories.
The Ambedkar Stadium here will play host to the knock out games including the semi-finals and finals while the round robin games will be played at other grounds across Delhi & NCR.
Air Marshal PP Bapat VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration & Vice – Chairman, Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society will be present during the Opening Ceremony.
The tournament will conclude on September 18.
