Glasgow, Sep 29 (UNI) Actor and writer Steven Cree, celebrated for his roles in ‘Outlander’ and ‘Head of State’, is set to both script and headline ‘Ben & Lucy’, an emotionally charged feature film produced by Finite Films & TV and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Cora Bissett (The Singer, I’d Like to Speak to the Manager).
The Glasgow-set drama explores the turbulent relationship between Ben, a middle-aged comedian in recovery and his estranged daughter Lucy, a gifted art student grappling with addiction.
The narrative traces their parallel struggles with addiction, compelling both to confront their scars and reckon with the cycle of pain shadowing their lives.
“Ben is desperate to show Lucy that he has changed and is no longer the unreliable father he once was,” reads a plot description. “But Lucy’s path of self-destruction leads them to both confront their pain and see how they can stop the cycle of havoc haunting them both.”
Cree is set to play Ben, while the casting for Lucy is yet to be unveiled. Actor Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, 28 Weeks Later) is attached to play Dan, Ben’s sponsor. Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves, Jamestown, Miss Scarlet) is also attached and set to play an undisclosed role, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Ben & Lucy is produced by Finite Films founder Amy Gardner (And Then Come the Nightjars, My House, Honeytrap).
“We are delighted to be working with Steven and Cora on Ben & Lucy,” said Gardner. “They’re shaping a film that is both deeply moving, narratively compelling and grounded in authenticity. At Finite Films & TV, we are passionate about projects with a strong emotional core and are committed to collaborating with both established voices and emerging talent. This balance allows us to push creative boundaries and champion stories that truly matter.”
Cree’s creative slate remains prolific. He appeared in William Bridges’ sci-fi romance “All of You” and will feature in Kirk Jones’ “I Swear”, inspired by a true story of a Tourette Syndrome campaigner.
He also stars in Apple TV thriller series Down Cemetery Road opposite Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson, as well as stars in the upcoming drama Queen at Sea, the second feature from Lance Hammer, which stars Juliette Binoche.
