Bhopal: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bhopal Branch, hosted a Standard Festival event at Hotel Radisson, Bhopal, on March 25, 2025, in celebration of World Consumer Rights Day 2025.
The event was inaugurated by Partha Sarathi Mandal, Scientist-E/Director and Head of BIS Bhopal Branch. He highlighted the role of BIS as India’s national standard body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution. Speaking on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, Mr. Mandal emphasized BIS’s contribution to the national economy by providing safe, reliable, and quality products, minimizing health risks for consumers, and engaging in various awareness activities, such as Standard Club programs and rural sensitization.
Chief Guest Mr. Karmveer Sharma, Commissioner & Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and Special Guest Mr. Subrata Roy, Dean, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, Bhopal, spoke about the importance of BIS standards and the impact of products manufactured according to these standards.
Mohammad Rizwan, Scientist-E/Director, and Mr. Rahul Kumar, Scientist-C/Deputy Director, introduced BIS activities and discussed key initiatives such as the BIS Care app, hallmarking for gold jewelry, and the ISI mark. The session concluded with a Q&A where participants appreciated BIS’s efforts to ensure quality and safety for consumers.
