Stalin led DMK regime steps into fifth year, high on confidence of retaining power in 2026

Chennai, May 7 (UNI) High on confidence banking on its four year achievements during which it had launched several flagship programmes for all sections of the society, the ruling DMK’s Dravidian Model Governance stepped into its fifth year on Wednesday, exuding confidence of overcoming the so called anti-incumbency factor as claimed by the Opposition and forming the government for the seventh time in next year’s Assembly polls.

Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin sounded confidence on the eve of entering his fifth year in office of the party retaining power and forming the government for the seventh time, banking on its four year achievements and people’s support.

As has been the tradition, he began the day of his fifth year in office, by paying tributes at the memorial of his father, late CM and DMK Patriarch M Karunanidhi and DMK Founder C N Annadurai at the Marina Beach front ad also at the memorial of social reformer Periyar.

He also launched some welfare schemes including flagging of new buses at an event to mark the occasion.

Dismissing the opposition charges of a perceived anti-incumbency factor, Mr Stalin, in an indirect reference to the Main Opposition AIADMK’s revival of ties with the BJP after a gap of two years, terming it as opportunistic and said their dream of forming the next government by unseating the DMK will never fructify.

He also had an indirect dig at the nascent TVK Founder and actor-politician Vijay’s claim of forming the government, and said those who have started new parties and just entered politics are dreaming of becoming the Chief Minister. Their dreams will jot be fulfilled.

It may be noted that Vijay had declared that the DMK was its political adversary and the BJP, which is ruling at the Centre as its ideological enemy.

Urging the party cadres to highlight the four year achievements of the government to the people, Mr Stalin was confidence personified when he said that the DMK will form the government for the seventh time by retaining power, while talking to reporters here last evening after attending a party event at the DMK Headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam”.

Earlier, in an epistle to the party cadres on the eve of entering the fifth year in office, Mr Stalin focussed on inclusive and equitable development, which it had ensured ever since he assumed office on this day in 2021 amid the height of Covid Pandemic and recalled the measures on how he tackled it amid various obstacles.

Recalling his four year journey while inheriting a decade of alleged misrule by the AIADMK and the country facing regressive ideologies like communalism by the ‘fascist’ BJP-led government at the Centre, which had been denying due share of funds to the state under various schemes and neglecting the state and trying to snatch its rights, Mr Stalin said despite all these hindrances he had managed to successfully govern the state for the last four years.

With this confidence, he said, he was stepping into the fifth year, while promising to work for the welfare for the people by implementing more schemes.

Highlighting the various achievements, that included making Tamil Nadu the second largest economy and making it the numero uno in various sectors, which was endorsed by the Centre itself on many parameters, Mr Stalin said the land of TN was built on principles of equality, social justice, secularsim, equality, brotherhood, linguistic pride, ethnic rights, besides State autonomy and federalism.

“We are marching into the fifth year with these same ideals and the DMK will form the government for the seventh time in 2026 with a resounding win”, while recalling a remark made by a speaker at a marriage on the other day that the DMK will retain power by winning 200 seats, saying why this pessimism, say we will win all the 234 Assembly seats in 2026.

Mr Stalin said initially he had said that the DMK will win 200 seats. But going by the people’s support which he had seen during his visit, the party was confident of winning at the 234 seats.

Taking a dig at the AIADMK, he said those who are forming an opportunistic alliance frustrated by repeated defeats in the successive elections (DMK has won all polls since 2019) by betraying Tamil Nadu, along with their covert partners, were wondering whether the DMK could be defeated in the 2026 Assembly elections.

“But people of Tamil Nadu will prove that their political calculations are flawed.

“On May 7, our Dravidian model governance completes four years and is stepping into its fifth year. People of Tamil Nadu trusted us and we have been delivering good-governance and people-centric schemes, driven by the goal of ‘everything for everyone.’

In the last four years, Tamil Nadu has become a leading State. Those who are ideologically opposed to us, ruling other States, have also begun to follow our initiatives. The people’s sentiment shows that this good governance will continue for another five years to ensure continuance of the socio-econmic progress by implementing various schemes that benefitted the every household in the state and building a modern TN by attracting investments in various sectors.

Reiterating that DMK will once again will register a thumping victory in 026 nd form the government as it did in 2021, when the DMK banking on the anti-incumbency wave, returned to power after a gap of ten years and Mr Stalin became the Chief Minister for the first time, he appealed to the party cadres to work tirelessly to achieve this goal by defeating the slanderous campaign to be unleashed by the Opposition.
