Dubai, Nov 29 (UNI) Bangladesh Under-19s and Sri Lanka Under-19s emerged victorious in the opening fixtures of the Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup, securing important wins in their respective encounters here on Friday.
Bangladesh claimed a 45-run victory over Afghanistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After being put in to bat, Bangladesh posted a challenging total of 228/9 in their 50 overs, with captain Azizul Hakim leading the way with a match-winning 103 runs from 133 balls.
Afghanistan’s chase faltered as regular wickets fell, despite a valiant 58 from Faisal Khan Ahmadzai.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, spearheaded by Iqbal Hossain Emon (3/40) and Al Fahad (3/36), ensured their opponents were bowled out for 183, giving Bangladesh a comfortable win.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka secured a 55-run victory over Nepal in a closely contested match at Sharjah. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a total of 233, with Sharujan Shanmuganathan top-scoring with 62 runs off 99 balls.
Nepal struggled in their chase, with Mayan Yadav’s gritty 62 being the only notable contribution. Praveen Maneesha (3/30) and Newton Ranjithkumar (2/17) were instrumental in restricting Nepal to 178 runs, handing Sri Lanka a well-earned victory.
Both teams will now look to build on these victories as they move forward in the tournament.
