- Former BJP youth wing vice-president among deceased; villagers block highway
Jabalpur: A tragic road accident occurred late Sunday evening near Sadaphal village, around 35 kilometers from Jabalpur, when a speeding Innova SUV crashed into a roadside tea stall, killing two youths and injuring two others. The SUV was traveling from Jabalpur towards Amarkantak when the accident took place.
According to the police, the driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid motorcyclists coming from Sadaphal towards Kundam. In an attempt to swerve, the SUV veered off the road and rammed into a tea stall where several people were standing. The impact was so severe that the vehicle hit three to four parked vehicles before striking the stall, triggering panic in the area.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak Mahobia, former vice-president of the BJP Youth Wing, and Akash Vishwakarma. Both were having tea at the stall at the time of the accident. Two others sustained injuries and were initially rushed to the medical college, where Deepak and Akash succumbed to their injuries on Monday afternoon.
Following the incident, angry villagers blocked the Jabalpur–Amarkantak road, demanding speed breakers in the residential stretch, especially as a high-speed highway is under construction. Kundam police reached the spot, took the SUV driver into custody, and initiated an investigation. According to the ASP, the vehicle occupants were residents of Dindori returning home after work in Jabalpur.
