New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has dismantled a Bangladesh-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module operating across India, arresting eight operatives in simultaneous raids in Kolkata and Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, an official said today.
According to the police, seven arrestees are Bangladeshi natives who had procured Indian identities to conceal their illegal entry into the country.
“The module was allegedly orchestrated by Shabir Ahmad Lone, a trained Kashmiri LeT militant currently based in Bangladesh,” said Pramod Singh Kushwah, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
“Lone, who was previously convicted in a 2007 Special Cell case involving a massive recovery of arms, including an AK-47 and grenades, is believed to have revived LeT sleeper cells in India and recruited Bangladeshi youth for terror operations,” the officer told the reporters during a press briefing.
The West Bengal arrests include Umar Faruk (31) from Malda and Robiul Islam (31) from Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. The Tamil Nadu module yielded six arrests: Md. Mizanur Rehman (32), Md. Sefayat Hossain (34), Md. Zahidul Islam (40), Md. Liton (40), Md. Uzzal (27), and Umar (32), all Bangladeshi nationals.
Speaking to the reporters, Kushwah said, “The probe began in early February when pro-Pakistan and pro-terror posters glorifying slain Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist Burhan Wani were found at Janpath Metro Station, Delhi.”
Investigation into this case further revealed that similar posters were at multiple locations, prompting a sensitive case transfer to the Special Cell.
Preliminary interrogation of Umar Faruk revealed that Lone had indoctrinated him in March 2025 and assigned him to conduct reconnaissance of key Indian installations.
The arrested operatives had affixed posters in Delhi and Kolkata and sent video evidence of their activities to Lone in Bangladesh. Officials said Lone had also tasked them with procuring weapons for future operations.
Recovered materials include multiple pro-terror posters, 10 mobile phones with incriminating content, 25 debit/credit cards, five POS machines, and Bangladeshi passports and identity documents.
The Special Cell stated that the timely apprehension of the module has averted possible terror attacks in India, and investigations are ongoing to track Lone and his network abroad.
