New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a 22-year-old man, an alleged key member of an interstate firearms syndicate, and recovered 11 semi-automatic pistols from his possession, an official said on Saturday.

The accused, Manpal, son of Kalyan, is a resident of Bijlipura village in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. According to police, Manpal was actively involved in supplying sophisticated firearms to criminals operating in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The operation was carried out by a team of the Southern Range of Special Cell led by Inspectors Ranjeet Singh and Sanjeev Kumar under the supervision of ACP Neeraj Kumar.

“Acting on sustained intelligence inputs, the team had been tracking the syndicate for over a month to dismantle the supply chain of illegal weapons being sourced from Madhya Pradesh-based arms dealers,” said Aalap Patel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell Southern Range).

The officer said on Tuesday, the team received inputs that Manpal had procured a fresh consignment of pistols from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh and was planning to deliver the weapons near Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi.

“On the basis of this information, a trap was laid by the team, and we got our hands on the accused in the evening,” the officer added.

While searching, the police recovered 11 good-quality. 32 bore semi-automatic pistols along with 11 extra magazines from his possession.

Amid the investigation, it was found that the firearms were meant to be supplied to gangsters and hardcore criminals in Delhi and NCR.

Following the information, a case was registered on December 10 under Sections 25 and 25(8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Special Cell.

During the sustained interrogation with Manpal, he admitted that he procured the pistols from an arms supplier based in Sendhwa, MP, and had been regularly supplying such weapons in Delhi and NCR.

“He further admitted that he had previously transported and sold more than 25 pistols to criminals in the region,” DCP Patel said.
