Sourav Ganguly set to take over as CAB president again

Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly is set to lead the Cricket Association of Bengal again, being the sole candidate to file his nomination for the president’s post today before the expiry of the deadline.

The elections are slated for September 22 when the CAB’s annual general meeting is scheduled to be held at the Eden Gardens.

Ganguly is poised to replace his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly whose term as CAB president ended this year. Ganguly had earlier served as CAB chief from 2015 to 2019. Later, he also became BCCI president in 2019 and continued in the post till 2022.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Ganguly said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support. At CAB, there is no opposition, everyone is a part of this Association. We will all work together to take CAB & Bengal cricket ahead. There are important events coming up- Eden Gardens India’s Test match against South Africa, T20 World Cup, Bengal Pro T20 League. I will try and do my best,” Ganguly said.

The unopposed panel that filed nominations today were Sourav Ganguly (President), Nitish Ranjan Dutta (Vice President), Bablu Koley (Secretary), Madan Mohan Ghosh (Joint Secretary), Sanjay Das (Treasurer).

Speaking about his team, Ganguly said, “Bablu Koley is very experienced. It’s important to have someone with his experience and knowledge. Nitish Ranjan Dutta, Madan Mohan Ghosh and Sanjay Das are also experienced and are in this field for a long time. All their experience will be immensely helpful for Bengal cricket.”

Meanwhile, sources said the CAB has already sent Sourav Ganguly’s name as its representative for the September 28 Board of Control for Cricket in India AGM. UNI BM SSP
