SL Women Opt to bowl against India in ICC WWC opener

Guwahati, Sept 30 (UNI) Sri Lanka Women captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and chose to field in the opening match against India Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup today.

The hosts are banking on their bowling attack on what Chamari described as a good batting track, though she noted that dew could play a role later in the game. “We are confident in our bowling unit and hope to bring out our best over the next five matches here in Sri Lanka,” she said.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, are set to chase with a balanced squad of three spinners and two pacers. “The pitch looks very good. Everyone is fit, and we’re hoping to put up a solid score,” Harmanpreet said. She also lauded opener Smriti Mandhana, stating, “She has always been great for us, and we hope she continues to perform well. Today is a great opportunity to play good cricket again.”

Sri Lanka Women’s XI includes Chamari Athapaththu (c), Hasini Perera, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunaratne, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani (w), Achini Kulasuriya, Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani, and Inoka Ranaweera.

India Women’s XI features Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (w), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, Kranti Gaud, and Shree Charani.
