Kolkata, Aug 31 (UNI) Celebrated singer Shreya Ghoshal on Saturday announced she has postponed her Kolkata concert, scheduled for mid-September, to protest against the “heinous” rape and murder of a lady doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
“I am deeply affected by the gruesome and heinous incident that recently took place in Kolkata. Being a woman myself, the very thought of the sheer brutality that she must have gone through is unthinkable and sends shivers down my spine,” said the 40-year-old singer.
“With an aching heart and with deep sorrow, my promoters and I wish to reschedule our concert,” Ghoshal posted on Instagram and X.
The concert was scheduled for September and is now likely to be held in October.
Ghoshal’s decision to postpone her concert comes two days after singer Arijit Singh protested against the R G Kar hospital incident.
Former BJP MP and actress Locket Chatterjee welcomed Ghosal’s protest and said the new generation would surely learn from the celebrated singer who has stood up against crimes perpetrated on women in society.
CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty also welcomed Ghoshal’s decision and said every sensitive member of the society should protest against such criminal acts. He complained that the real culprits were being shielded by the people in power.
