Shweta Tripathi embarks on theatrical production journey with LGBTQ drama ‘Cock’

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) Bollywood actress and producer Shweta Tripathi is set to make her theatrical debut with the much-lauded British play ‘Cock’, marking a significant creative milestone in her artistic journey.

The production is scheduled to premiere on June 6 at Delhi’s Max Mueller Bhavan, followed by a June 10 showing at Mumbai’s iconic Prithvi Theatre.

This bold and thought-provoking play marks Shweta’s reconnection with her theatre roots as well as her commitment to tell powerful and inclusive stories on stage.

Produced under Shweta’s theatre collective All My Tea, and directed by celebrated UK-based director Manish Gandhi, the play features a compelling cast which includes, Rytasha Rathore, Tanmay Dhanania, Sahir Mehta and Harssh Singh.

Penned by British playwright Mike Bartlett, the play is an explosive, emotionally charged drama that delves into themes of identity, sexuality, and the fluidity of love. It’s honest, unapologetic portrayal of a man caught between the familiar and the unexpected—his long-time male partner and a new-found attraction to a woman.

Its Indian staging arrives during Pride Month, underscoring Shweta’s intent to champion stories from the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

Speaking about the project, Shweta shared, “Theatre has always been my first love. It’s raw, immediate, and leaves no space to hide—from the audience or from the truth.

“Producing a play like ‘Cock’ is a personal and creative decision born out of my belief that storytelling should reflect the world in all its complexity and beauty. We are living in a time where people are finally feeling empowered to own their identities, and ‘Cock’ doesn’t shy away from the discomfort or the beauty of that journey. It’s messy, human, and real. That’s what drew me to it.”
