Shreyas Iyer stable, out of ICU after spleen injury during Sydney ODI

Sydney, Oct 28 (UNI) India cricketer Shreyas Iyer’s health condition has shown signs of improvement, with doctors confirming today that he is now stable and out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a Sydney hospital.

The 30-year-old had been rushed to the hospital following internal bleeding caused by a severe on-field injury during the third ODI against Australia.

Iyer sustained the injury while fielding when he dived backward to take a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey. The impact caused a serious injury below his left rib cage, leading to internal bleeding and dangerously close to body vitals.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team acted swiftly after Iyer’s vital parameters fluctuated upon his return to the dressing room, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The BCCI issued a statement yesterday, confirming the nature and extent of Iyer’s injury. “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025.

He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well,” the statement said.

The board also confirmed that the Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Iyer to monitor his daily progress.

“The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” it added.
