Shreyas Iyer injured in Sydney ODI

Sydney, Oct 25 (UNI) In the third ODI clash here today, a moment of tension and concern unfolded on the Indian field. Shreyas Iyer, racing back to take a spectacular catch off Harshit Rana’s delivery, plunged to the ground after holding on to the ball, suffering a serious injury that drew gasps from every corner of the stadium.

The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 34th over, ending the 59-run fourth-wicket partnership between Alex Carrey and Matt Renshaw.

The physio rushed, teammates gathered, and in that instant of anxiety, Rohit Sharma, India’s former ODI captain, stepped forward. He checked on Iyer’s condition and personally escorted him to the boundary, a gesture that spoke volumes beyond the statistics and controversies.

There has been no official update on Iyer’s condition from the Indian dressing room so far. The incident is set against the backdrop of Rohit’s abrupt removal from the ODI captaincy, a decision that stunned the cricketing fraternity just months after India’s Champions Trophy triumph.

Shreyas Iyer became India’s latest injury concern following young allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was ruled out of the Sydney ODI with a left quadriceps injury sustained in the second ODI at Adelaide.

After winning the toss, India captain Shubman Gill made two changes to the final XI, bringing in Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Arshdeep Singh and Nitish. The BCCI confirmed that Nitish is under daily monitoring by the team’s medical staff.

Far from sulking, Rohit threw himself into the game, returning to international cricket with focus and fitness, delivering a brilliant 73 in the second ODI to steady the ship when the team faltered.

Even the new ODI captain, Shubman Gill, was seen ensuring Iyer received full support, walking him to the boundary after the mishap.

In a series often dominated by runs and wickets, this fleeting moment reminded fans that cricket, at its heart, is also about care, courage, and camaraderie.
