Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) India batter Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydeney hospital after sustaining a serious abdominal injury during the ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), confirmed in a statement today.
According to the official statement, Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure.
“He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same,” the BCCI said in its release.
The board also noted that the BCCI medical team, in collaboration with specialists in Sydney and India, are satisfied with Iyer’s progress. “He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” it said.
BCCI extended its gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury.
“Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” the official statement added.
During the ODI series, Iyer sustained the injury while fielding when he dived backward to take a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey. The impact caused a serious injury below his left rib cage, leading to internal bleeding and dangerously close to body vitals.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team acted swiftly after Iyer’s vital parameters fluctuated upon his return to the dressing room, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
