Washington, Nov 19 (UNI) Japanese singer and actor Ren Meguro has joined the cast of the next chapter of the multi–Emmy Award-winning series ‘Shogun’, which begins production on its new season in January in Vancouver, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the upcoming season, Meguro will portray Kazutada. He joins recently announced cast members Asami Mizukawa (Aya), Masataka Kubota (Hyuga), Sho Kaneta (Hidenobu), Takaaki Enoki (Lord Ito) and Jun Kunimura (Goda).
Returning to the ensemble are Hiroyuki Sanada (Toranaga), Cosmo Jarvis (Blackthorne), Fumi Nikaido (Ochiba), Shinnosuke Abe (Buntaro), Hiroto Kanai (Omi), Yoriko Doguchi (Kiri), Tommy Bastow (Alvito), Yuko Miyamoto (Gin), Eita Okuno (Saeki) and Yuka Kouri (Kiku).
“I am incredibly honoured to join the cast of Shogun season two,” Meguro said in a statement. “When I streamed Shogun on Disney last year, I was deeply moved by its unique and sweeping portrayal of Japan—so different from past depictions. As a Japanese person, I felt a strong pull to be part of such a groundbreaking production,” as per The Hollywood Reporter.
“I began learning more about the team behind it, exploring Hiroyuki Sanada’s vision and long-time commitment, and reading numerous articles about the series. Now that I’m joining the cast, it feels like a dream come true,” he added, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
Season two will take place ten years after the events of the first season, once again centering on the contrasting lives, ambitions, and loyalties of Lord Toranaga and the English navigator Anjin Blackthorne.
Meguro, a member of the nine-man idol group Snow Man, continues to expand his acting career. He recently secured leading roles in ‘As Long as We Both Shall Live and Trillion Game: The Movie’, as well as upcoming films Hodonaku, Owakare desu, and the live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days. On television, he has starred in Trillion Game and the dramas Silent and Soar High!
