New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Prithvi Shaw produced the standout performance of the day with a whirlwind double century, while several teams pressed for outright results on the third day of the latest Ranji Trophy round across venues today.
In Chandigarh, Shaw hammered an unbeaten 222 off just 156 balls against Chandigarh, reaching his double hundred in 141 deliveries, the third-fastest in Ranji Trophy history. His knock helped Maharashtra declare at 359 for 3, leaving Chandigarh chasing 464. At stumps, Chandigarh were 129 for 1, still needing 335 runs on the final day.
In Mumbai, Musheer Khan made up for his failure with the bat by delivering crucial breakthroughs as Mumbai tightened their grip over Chhattisgarh. After Himanshu Singh removed both openers, Musheer dismissed Sanjeet Desai and Amandeep Khare as Chhattisgarh slipped to 175 for 6, still trailing Mumbai by 241 runs at the MCA-BKC ground.
In Delhi, captain Yash Dhull (70) and Ayush Doseja (62 not out) accelerated in a 125-run stand, taking Delhi to 196 for 4 in their second innings, extending their lead over Himachal Pradesh to 329. Earlier in the day, Navdeep Saini took 3 for 52 to wrap up Himachal for 297.
Bengal’s hopes of forcing a win dimmed in Kolkata despite Shahbaz Ahmed claiming 6 for 34 to bowl out Gujarat. The visitors’ captain Manan Hingrajia held firm with 80 not out, stretching the innings. Bengal, with a lead of 282 and four second-innings wickets in hand, face time and weather constraints on the final day.
Meanwhile, Nagaland staged one of the day’s most remarkable recoveries in Dimapur. From 31 for 4, Dega Nischal (161 not out) and Imliwati Lemtur (115 not out) led a dramatic turnaround to reach 365 for 5 against Tamil Nadu, who were earlier lifted by a hat-trick from Gurjapneet Singh.
Elsewhere, Punjab bowlers exploited low bounce to keep Kerala to 247 for 6 in Mohali, while Hyderabad seamers B. Punnaiah and Chama Milind bundled Pondicherry into early trouble at home in a rain-affected day.
