‘Shariq Machli’ may face charges in 2016 assault case

Bhopal: Shariq Ahmed, alias “Machli,” a figure already embroiled in alleged “Forced conversion” and drug cases, is now facing renewed scrutiny from police. Authorities are set to reopen an old assault case and could soon charge him, presenting a supplementary challan to the court.

The case dates back to October 1, 2016, when railway employee Rajesh Tiwari filed a police report. He alleged that on the night of September 30, his car was hit by two men on an Activa scooter, identified as Rizwan and Shoaib. A second scooter, carrying Machli and another accomplice, also arrived at the scene. Tiwari claimed all four men then attacked him with knives before fleeing.

A significant controversy arose when the then-Station House Officer, Anup Uike, submitted a challan in July 2018, naming only Rizwan and Shoaib, while deliberately excluding Machli’s name.

Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra has now ordered a re-investigation. If Machli’s involvement is confirmed, he will be formally charged, and the police will submit a supplementary challan, ensuring all individuals involved are held accountable for the crime.
