Shame in the capital: Visually impaired man cheated by fake minister’s aide

  • Police allegedly pressure him to drop case

Bhopal: In a disturbing incident that highlights both criminal audacity and administrative apathy, a visually impaired man from Seoni was defrauded of his life savings under the guise of a government job offer. Shivkumar Thakre, who has been wandering the streets of Bhopal for two months seeking justice, claims he was duped of Rs 20,000 by a man posing as a Minister’s Personal Assistant (PA).

Thakre was lured by the promise of a secure government position. The fraudster initially demanded Rs 10,000 for “processing,” followed by several smaller installments. Driven by hope, Thakre paid the amount, only for the “PA” to vanish and block his calls.

The tragedy deepened when Thakre approached the Bhopal Police. Despite initial assurances of a crackdown in Sagar, no arrests were made. Frustrated, Thakre filed a complaint via the CM Helpline, which reportedly triggered a backlash from local authorities. Instead of catching the culprit, Thakre alleges that multiple officers pressured him to withdraw his complaint, even claiming they had “completed their search” without providing results.

“They told me to close the complaint and promised the money would return, but nothing happened,” Thakre shared. Though he eventually closed the helpline ticket under duress, he continues to plea for justice before ministers and the public, a victim of both a heartless scam and a failing support system.
