Sewadar beaten to death at Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) A servant (sewadar) of South Delhi’s Kalkaji temple was brutally murdered by a group of four persons last night over an argument on Chunni Prasad.

Police said that one of the accused, identified as Atul Pandey, was held from the spot.

The victim, Sewadar, identified as Yogendra Singh, worked as a Sewadar at the temple premises.

UNI accessed the CCTV footage of the incident, in which it could be seen that the accused, Pandey, along with his aides, was brutally assaulting the victim with sticks.

The police received a PCR call about the altercation around 9:30 PM. Immediately a team was sent to the spot.

“We learnt that the accused had demanded a chunri prasad (a ceremonial offering, often a red scarf) from the victim after the prayers. An argument ensued, which escalated, and the accused then brutally assaulted Yogendra Singh with sticks and fists,” said the official.

The police said that Yogendra was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The deceased had been working as a servant at the temple for the past fifteen years.

“After the incident, the public caught one of the accused, Atul Pandey, a resident of South Puri, and handed him over to the police. The identities of the other accused are being ascertained, and the search for them is ongoing,” the official said.

The police have registered a case of murder in this respect.
