New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Delhi Police arrested seven more people, including three women, and also took a minor into custody on Sunday night in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Tarun Bhutolia during Holi festivities in Uttam Nagar, south-west Delhi, on March 4.
According to the police, the eighth person involved in this case, who has been identified as Imam, alias Bunty, was arrested earlier on Sunday from his house in Uttam Nagar.
Following the latest round of arrests, 14 people, including two minors, have been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Among those arrested in the latest crackdown are three women, Sayra alias Kali (40), Sharifan (50), and Salma (36), all residents of Uttam Nagar. A senior police officer said they had previously been taken into custody for questioning related to the incident.
The other individuals arrested include Suhail, alias Sahil (21), Sameer Chauhan (20), Firoj (22), and Ismile (50), all residents of the same locality. Police also apprehended a 14-year-old minor for his alleged involvement in the violence.
“Sayra, alias Kali, was said to have been part of an argument after a young girl from the victim’s family threw a water balloon that burst and drenched her,” according to police sources.
Following the incident, a dispute erupted between the families, ultimately resulting in a violent clash in the densely populated JJ Colony on March 4.
In the clash, Tarun, aged 26, was reportedly attacked by several individuals. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on March 5, according to police.
The clash heightened local tensions, resulting in a strong deployment of police and paramilitary personnel in the area.
Kushal Pal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) stated that police are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest others involved in the clash.
