Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Friday surged 226.59 pts to close at 78,699.07 on the strength of Health Care, FMCG and Auto stocks.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 63.20 pts at 23,813.40.
The Sensex opened at 78,607.62, moving up 135 pts. It remained in green throughout the session, as it rallied 571 pts at 79,043.15, days high, before closing at 78,699.07, advancing 226.59 pts from its last close
The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,938.85 pts and by 23,800.60 pts respectively.
The stocks that lifted the market were Auto by 0.86 pc, Health Care by 0.79 pc and FMCG by 0.35 pc.
The Mid cap fell 0.08 pc while small cap rose 0.28 pc.
In 30 scrips, 20 advanced while 10 declined.
The gainers were M & M by 2.47 pc to Rs 3050, Infosys by 2.41 pc to Rs 954.60, Tata Motors by 1.73 pc to Rs 753.65, Bajaj Finance by 1.37 pc to Rs 6910.10 and Bajaj Finserv by 1.32 pc to Rs 1580.35.
The losers were SBI by 1.37 pc to Rs 800.50, Tata Steel by 0.93 pc to Rs 139.05, Adani Ports by 0.88 pc to Rs 1233 and Ultracemco by 0.72 pc to Rs 11,375.05.
