Mumbai, Feb 24 (UNI) Extending losses for the fifth straight session on Monday, the BSE Sensex dropped 856.65 pts to settle at 74,454.41 with continued volatility causing uncertainty among retail investors.
Even, tariff concerns may damage export-oriented sectors such as IT.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 242.55 pts at 22,553.35.
The day opened in red at 74,893.45, sliding 418 pts. It crashed 924 pts at 74,387.44 a day low, before closing at 74,454.41, sinking 856.65 pts from its previous close.
The Nifty registered a day high at 22,668.05 and low at 22,518.80 pts.
The stocks that slid were IT by 2.60 pc, Technology by 2.56 pc, Telecom by 2.26 pc, and Metal by 2.16 pc.
The Mid-cap declined by 0.78 pc and the Small-cap by 1.35 pc.
In 30 scrips, 7 advanced while 23 declined.
The losers were HCL Technology by 3.32 pc to Rs 1644.40, Zomato by 3.32 pc to Rs 222.60, TCS by 2.93 pc to Rs 3674.90 and Infosys by 2.81 pc to Rs 1764.15.
The gainers were Mahindra & Mahindra by 1.58 pc to Rs 2710, Kotak Bank by 0.64 pc to Rs 1965.50, Maruti Suzuki by 0.25 pc to Rs 12,351.15 and Nestle India Ltd by 0.24 pc to Rs 2220.30.
Asian Market also remained negative, as Hang Seng fell by 0.58 pc, Strait Times by 0.06 pc, Taiwan Weighted by 0.70 pc, and Set Composite by 0.84 pc.
