Sensex tanks 1414.33 pts

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) The equity market on Friday slumped 1414.33 pts at 73,198.10 on weak global cues.

Persistent selling by foreign investors, Trump tariff policy, and concern over slowing economic growth factors badly hit the market. Now, Investors await GDP data to be released shortly.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slid 420.35 pts at 22,124.70.

The BSE Sensex which was ended on a flat note on Thursday, opened today at 74,201.77falling 411 pts. During the day it tanked 1471 pts at 73,141.27, a day low, before closing at 73,198.10, sinking 1414.33 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered day high at 22,450.35 and a low at 22,104.85 pts.

The stocks that toppled the market were Technology by 4.20 pc followed by Telecommunications by 4.09, Auto by 3.84 pc, and Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services by 2.74 pc.

The Mid-cap declined by 2.16 pc and Small-cap by 2.33 pc.

In 30 scrips, 1 advanced while 29 declined.

The losers were IndusInd Bank by 7.02 pc to Rs 972.80, Tech Mahindra by 6.38 pc to Rs 1486, Bharti Airtel by 5.07 pc to Rs 1566, M& M by 4.74 pc to Rs 2596.85 and Tata Motors by 4.18 pc to Rs 621.10.

Sole, gainer was HDFC Bank by 1.79 pc to Rs 1729.90.
