Sensex rebounds 149.85 points

Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) Snapping a losing streak of the last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday recovered 149.85 points to close at 79,105.88 on the strength of technology, IT, and consumer durable stocks amid a mixed trend in the Asian market.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose marginally by 4.75 points at 24,143.75.

The BSE Sensex opened higher by 109 points at 79,065.22. It surged 272 points to 79,228.94, days high, before closing at 79,105.88, up 149.85 points from its previous close.

Meanwhile, it slipped 61 points to 78,895. 72 days low.

The stocks that lifted the market were IT by 1.41 pc, Technologies by 1.33 pc, and Consumer Durable by 0.13 pc.

The mid cap fell by 0.41 pc and the small cap by 0.57 pc.

In 30 scrips, 16 advanced and 14 declined.

The gainers were TCS by 2.29 pc to Rs 4291, HCL Technology by 1.97 pc to Rs 1624, Tech Mahindra by 1.44 pc to Rs 1524.30, Infosys by 1.28 pc to Rs 1819.80, and M&M by 1.08 pc to Rs 2747.35.

The losers were Ultracemco by 2.46 pc to Rs 10,991.35, JSW Steel by 1.85 pc to Rs 890.90, Tata Steel by 1.85 pc to Rs 146.15, and Adani Ports by 1.55 pc to Rs 1460.70.

A mixed trend was seen in the Asian market, as Strait Times was up by 0.84 pc, Taiwan Weighted by 1.05 pc, and Kospi by 0.87 pc.

While Hang Seng fell by 0.35 pc and Set Composite by 0.39 pc.
