Sensex falls 67.30 pts

Mumbai, Dec 24 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday drifted lower by 67.30 pts to settle at 78,472.87 on profit booking by local operators.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 25.80 pts at 23,727.65.

Jumping over 400 pts on Monday, the Sensex opened on a strong note at 78,707.37, up 235 pts.

It rallied 405 pts at 78,877.36, a day high.

In late trade, it erased earlier gains and finished negative at 78,472.87, sliding 67.30 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,867.65 pts and by 23,685.15 pts respectively.

The stocks that dragged the market were Powergrid by 0.73 pc, Utilities by 0.52 pc, and Consumer Durable by 0.50 pc.

The Mid-cap rose by 0.09 while the Small-cap by 0.67 pc.

In 30 scrips, 14 advanced while 16 declined.

The losers were Powergrid by 1.62 pc to Rs 310.15, SBI by 1.11 pc to Rs 811.85, Titan by 0.98 pc to Rs 3363.25 and Tata Steel by 0.95 pc to Rs 140.35.

The gainers were Tata Motors by 1.92 pc to Rs 736.35, ITC by 0.86 pc to Rs 478.30, Nestle India Ltd by 0.69 pc to Rs 2166.80, and M& M by 0.62 pc to Rs 2930.50.
