Sensex down 241.30 pts

Mumbai, Jan 10 (UNI) Extending losses for the third consecutive session on Friday, the BSE Sensex dropped 241.30 pts to settle at 77,378.91 in a volatile trade on weak global market.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 50 points at 23,431.50.

The sensex opened on a positive note at 77,682.59, rises 62 pts. It was further gained 279 pts at 77,919.70, days high. In late trade, it erased earlier gains and ended negative at 77,378.91, sliding 241.30 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,596.60 and 23,344.35 pts respectively.

The stocks that dragged the market further

were Power by 3.07 pc, Utilities by 2.86 pc, Realty by 2.64 pc and Health Care by 2.37 pc.

The Mid cap fell 2.13 pc and Small cap by 2.40 pc.

In 30 scrips, 8 advanced while 22 declined.

The losers were IndusInd Bank by 4.25 pc to Rs 939.25, NTPC by 3.89 pc to Rs 307.75, Ultrasemco by 3.43 pc to Rs 10,881.15 and Sun Pharma by 2.25 pc to Rs 1785.

The gainers were TCS by 5.66 pc to Rs 4265, Tech Mahindra by 3.63 pc to Rs 1703, HCL Technologies by 1996.20 and Infosys by 2.47 pc to Rs 1965.10.

The Asian Market was seen negative. Hang Seng was down by 0.93 pc, Taiwan Weighted by 0.30 pc and Kospi by 0.24 pc.
